BUTTERFLY

I laid out hundreds of objects I have found over the last about 25 years, being saved for 3-D work of some kind, on tables. I singled out a few that activated or interacted with the painted cut-out shapes. The objects on Butterfly are not associated or chosen to narrate anything; rather, they have a poetic relationship to each other and to the painted spaces, based on their visual qualities (e.g. colour, shape, weight, similar-but-not). The title of this work lets in “what if” ideas; like, what if the planet we live on was a giant butterfly moving around the Sun? What would our built environment, entropic activities and array of objects look like then?
